Help UCA get the Kohl’s Cares $500,000 Prize
August 19, 2010
A local high school has a shot at $500,000 from Kohl’s. The department store is sponsoring a contest on the popular social website, Facebook. Facebook users are given 20 votes for their favorite schools. The top 20 schools that get the most votes will each receive a $500,000 grant from Kohl’s for projects on their campus.
There is only one school in our area that is in the top 100 currently and that is Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, WA. Right now they are ranked 48.
Upper Columbia Academy is run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and has an enrollment of over 250 students. The school’s principal Troy Patzer say’s “We’re very excited we’re ranked at forty-eight, but we’re hoping to get some help to push us into the top twenty.” Patzer says the money would be used to replace a cafeteria on the campus that is over 50 years old.
The contest ends on September 3 and Patzer encourages everyone to vote for their own schools but he adds, “if you have a few extra votes we’d sure love it if you threw them Upper Columbia Academy’s way!”
In order to vote you have to have an account on Facebook. If you do just type “Kohl’s Cares” into the search bar.
