A Christmas Present: More Online Yearbooks

December 21, 2010

The following is a note from Mark Janke:

“Over the last year and a half, I have worked hard to completely digitize the UCA yearbook collection -with the help of many students, staff and alumni.  This project has enabled alumnus to revisit their old yearbook and reminisce.  These digital books are also used for on-campus history assignments.  Basically, it makes them usable without using them up.

Since leaving my teaching position at UCA last spring, I have struggled to find the time to finish this big goal.  At last, the goal is accomplished -and just in time for Christmas.  I hope that the alumni, staff, and students will enjoy the last installment of the UCA yearbooks (the 1990′s-2000′s) as much as I have while putting these books together for online use.

Many Blessings and Merry Christmas!”

Dear UCA Family,

Just a few hours and Christmas break will be here! The music department is putting the final touches on their performances. Tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the UCA SDA Church you will be able to enjoy and appreciate the many hours of practice. Then Saturday night at 7:30 in downtown Spokane, the 4th Annual Christmas at the Fox will begin.

Just an FYI: We continue to have days when we cannot make outgoing calls although we have been able to receive calls. We are continuing to work with our phone company to correct the issues. Thank you for your understanding.

DID YOU KNOW the Student Week of Prayer (“SWOP”) speakers have been chosen by the student body. The speakers will leave on their retreat to begin preparing their talks on Thursday, January 6. Let’s begin praying for them now.

The Upper Columbia Conference is joining the world Seventh-day Adventist Church in a prayer initiative. Click on this link for details http://www.uccsda.org/stories/20101214. Please remember UCA when you pray.

The This Week at UCA, the MODIFIED home leave bus schedule for Christmas Break are attached and on our website www.ucaa.org. The cafeteria menu will be posted on the website later.

This Week at UCA – December 10-16, 2010

December 9, 2010

Dear UCA Family,

We enjoy the snow, but we are thankful for the milder weather and improved driving conditions.

Just an FYI: Our phone company has been working on the phone lines in our area. Although we have been able to receive calls, we often are unable to make outgoing calls. Thank you for your understanding.

DID YOU KNOW UCA goes through a rigorous evaluation every term as part of our accreditation process? The term length is determined according to the success of the previous evaluation. Our most recent evaluation was February, 2010. We recently received the final results from that evaluation, and are pleased to have received again the longest term of six years with an interim visit in three years. The evaluation reconfirmed that UCA has much to be proud of; however, we want to strive for more progress as we look towards the future.

This Week at UCA – December 3-9, 2010

December 2, 2010

Dear UCA Family,

We continue to be grateful for God’s protection as students and staff travel on the sometimes icy, sometimes slushy roads. The forecast is great for the ski slopes!

DID YOU KNOW we are putting together a Parent Volunteer Corps? Several of you have expressed interest in volunteering on campus, so we are in the process of organizing a group of parent volunteers.  If you are interested email, Carol Ochoa, carol.ochoa@ucaa.org. She will send you the volunteer form to complete and will forward your name to our coordinators.

BLOOD DRIVE is Tuesday, December 7, not December 14.

During my Thanksgiving reflections, one thought was very strong and I decided I would share it with you as you may want to help me with it.  I am so grateful for the team of staff I have the pleasure of working with. Getting to see how they minister to the needs of your students is an honor. I wondered as I reflected, in this season of thanksgiving, would you be interested in sending an email to a staff member (or members) that has been a blessing to your student.  Maybe it is a dean, a teacher that has spent extra time with your student, maybe their work supervisor, maybe our maintenance man that helped them get their tire fixed on their car, or the cafeteria staff that have helped them by providing a vegan option. Whomever it might be, would you take a few minutes and surprise them with a quick message in their inbox (or call or write if you prefer)? All the staff emails are their firstname.lastname@ucaa.org

Blessings to you this holiday season!
