This Week at UCA – January 28-February 3, 2011

January 27, 2011

Dear UCA Family,

Student Week of Prayer begins on Monday night at 6:40 p.m. in our church. If you are in the area join us, you will be blessed!

DID YOU KNOW we have 132 seventh-tenth graders on campus from 13 different schools? They are joining our 100 choir and choraliers students for our UCA Choir Clinic? Mr. Anderson has the privilege to direct this “angel” choir. You are invited to attend the concert on Sabbath at 4:00 p.m. in the gymnasium to hear the result of their exercising their vocal cords. You don’t want to miss it, it will be a taste of heaven.

Our 19 band students who are part of the Walla Walla University Honor Band are practicing with the other students in preparation for their performances at 11:45 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sabbath at the WWU SDA Church. If you are near Walla Walla you are invited to enjoy the amazing result of their hard work.

SENIOR PARENTS remember the deadline is Friday, February 4. See the attached letter.

The This Week at UCA and the cafeteria menu are attached and on our website www.ucaa.org.

I have mentioned previously about the new prayer initiative that our world church is promoting. The joining together with millions of fellow believers to pray at 7 a.m. and/or p.m. for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to bring about revival.  If you haven’t yet joined this initiative I would encourage you to join me in it.  First, for HIS spirit to begin a revival in our personal life. Secondly, to pray for UCA that especially in this next week’s Student Week of Prayer the Holy Spirit will start a revival on our campus. Finally, for our cities we live in, our country, and our world, that revival will go around the globe and hasten the soon coming of our Savior.

This Week at UCA – January 21-27, 2011

January 20, 2011

Dear UCA Family,

This past weekend I had the privilege of being a part of the Area Church Service Day. Because of this day we are now blessed with a new student, Heather. In addition to Heather four other students transferred in (Faith, Emily, Darien and Sabrina), with a few more students possibly coming. We welcome them!

What is Area Church Service Day?  Something new we started this year and hope to grow in the future.  This year we had students and staff at five different churches leading out in many different ways, hopefully next year we can be at more churches.  If we missed your church and you would like us to come next year (or maybe we can even still come this year), contact Joe Hess at joe.hess@ucaa.org. We’d love for you to see a part of the blessings God is doing at UCA through our students.

DID YOU KNOW currently we have at least ten UCA alumni in major leadership positions at Walla Walla University? Congratulations to: ASWWU President – Nolan Kinne ’07, ASWWU Financial VP – Justin Davis ‘07, ASWWU PR VP – Dustin Horn ’08, Boys’ Club Social VP – Lars Jordan ’08, Senior Class VP – Dustin Kelly ’05, Collegian Editor – Bill Lenz ’07, Men’s Dorm Chaplain – Michael Woodruff ‘09, Awakening Worship Leader – John Lubke ‘07, with Emily Muthersbaugh ’08 and Sacha Kravig ’09 as assistants. Danielle Shull ’09 and Marianna Kravig ’10 were two of the student week of prayer speakers last week.

SENIOR PARENTS it’s time to send in your tribute for the yearbook. The deadline has been moved to February 4. See the attached letter. You should have received the letter in the mail too.

This Week at UCA – January 14-20, 2011

January 13, 2011

Dear UCA Family,

Today was UCA board meeting on our campus. As we mentioned earlier in the year, the staff are reading through the book Education and then at staff meetings taking time to discuss  and pray over what has been read. Today at board meeting our board, having read the first seven chapters as homework, discussed these chapters together.  If you can, I would encourage you to join our staff and board in reading this valuable book. Pray with us that the Lord will inspire us to continue to grow to be the school HE wants us to be.

DID YOU KNOW we currently have four recent alumni serving as student missionaries? Cassie Cantrell ’09 – Malawi, Rainey Davis ’08 – Philippines, Saul Dominguez ’09 – Namu, Marshall Islands, Breanna Kreiter ’08 – Peru. We also have Devin Darrough ‘02 and Kevin Ekvall ’02 who are both serving as Taskforce Volunteers here at UCA. Our staff and students pray for them, so if you know of other alumni that are currently serving we’d like to know so we can pray for them also.

DID YOU KNOW Emily Wilkens ’04 will soon be a published author? Her book, African Rice Heart, will be released on February 1, and she’s taking her amazing and inspirational student missionary stories on the road this spring. This is a taste of her book http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMZ-M2DKg_E

DAY STUDENTS AND PARENTS Monday, January 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, will be a regular school day.

SENIOR PARENTS it’s time to send in your tribute for the yearbook. The deadline has been moved to February 4. See the attached letter. You will also be receiving the letter in the mail soon.

At the close of our board meeting today, our board chairman Bob Folkenberg led us through the information on the new prayer initiative called “God’s Promised Gift.” Many of you have likely heard about this in your local Seventh-day Adventist Church. If you haven’t, it is an initiative for the revival of our world church. As Ellen White counsels in Selected Messages Volume 1 page 121, …“a revival can only be expected in answer to prayer.” So we ask you to join us, as we join our world church in prayer for revival. Join SEVENth-day Adventists, SEVEN days a week at, SEVEN o’clock (am or pm), in prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our UCA campus and around the world.

January 6, 2011

Dear UCA Family,

Happy New Year!

We’re back in full swing. Our Student Week of Prayer speakers have left on their retreat, and the semester is quickly winding down. Second semester begins Monday, January 17, so if you know of a student that would like to join the UCA family, contact Joe Hess joe.hess@ucaa.org TODAY!

DID YOU KNOW UCA band members comprise exactly 1/3 of the Walla Walla University Honor Band (formerly WWU Band Clinic)? Of the 57 students from 12 schools, who auditioned for the WWU Honor Band, 19 UCA band members were chosen. I’m extremely proud of how hard the students worked, and it will be very exciting to hear the band perform on Sabbath, January 29, at the 11:45 service and at the 4:00 p.m. program at the WWU Church.

DAY STUDENTS AND PARENTS we will have a regular school day on Martin Luther King Jr Day, Monday, January 17.

SENIOR PARENTS it’s time to send in your tribute for the yearbook. The deadline has been moved to February 4. See the attached letter. You will also be receiving the letter in the mail soon.

The Upper Columbia Conference is joining the world Seventh-day Adventist Church in a prayer initiative. Click on this link for details http://www.uccsda.org/files/stories/2010PrayerInitiative.pdf.  Please remember UCA when you pray.
