A Different Week Of Prayer

October 21, 2011

United Prayer Comes to UCA

Article by Sophia Rich

Upper Columbia Academy’s October Week of Prayer was something new for everyone. Normally, students attend two meetings a day for a week. This time, however, the first meeting of the day was entirely dedicated to prayer. Tiana Woods, from ARME Bible Camp, came to show the students how to actively strengthen their prayer life as well as show them a new way to pray as a family.

United Prayer was something almost unheard of on campus at the start of the week, but by the end of the week, groups that just couldn’t wait for the meetings to pray, broke off into their own groups to share in United Prayer. This form of praying allows all the people in a group to pray aloud and share their struggles and praise with God and each other. To streamline the prayers, there is a certain format the groups follow: Adoration, Confession, Supplication, and Thanksgiving. What results is a balanced prayer that the students lift up to the Lord together.

The evening meetings were more like typical Week of Prayer meetings. Lawrence Thompson, a recent graduate of Amazing Facts, spoke to the students about prayer and the impact it had on his life. He shared his testimony in bits and pieces throughout the week about how God lifted him out of depression, drugs, and sin using prayer. United Prayer specifically was what helped him connect with God in a new way and turn his life around. He had only spoken publicly once or twice before doing the week of prayer talks. Going through the story of Jonah, the students learned to be aware of their surroundings, trust God, and listen to what he has to say.

The week caused a spiritual revival on campus. Freshman Sarina Meservia got re-baptized on Sabbath after the meetings and many other students vowed to rededicate their lives to the Lord. Sophomore Tara Jennings took initiative to put together a spiritual meeting called 15 Minutes with God. A large number of students are involved in a group they call ROC Ministries (Revival on Campus). All over campus, students are praying and encouraging one another and working to make this special week last all year long.

This Week at UCA – October 23-27, 2011

October 19, 2011

Dear UCA Family,

Home leave has started and campus is so quiet, we can almost hear the beautiful fall leaves dropping from the trees.  This home leave marks the end of the first quarter of the 2011-12 school year.  Updates on the end of quarter grades should be posted to InformationNOW soon, so you will want to watch for that.  We hope you are able to see your student over break.

DID YOU KNOW?

Last week approximately fifty students came forward on a call for baptism/re-baptism at the close of Week of Prayer.  Many more have re-dedicated their lives to Christ and have started a new focus on campus called ROC (revival on campus).  As Jesus met the tempter in the wilderness with the power of God’s word right after His baptism, we solicit your prayers for  these students and their decisions concerning Christ.  We praise God for the Spirit’s presence on campus and are thrilled with these students responses to heavens promptings.
