From the Peach Family

April 26, 2010

We would like to thank everyone who came to help us say good bye to Dad at his memorial service, and also to those who have already donated to the Memorial Worthy Student Fund on his behalf. We are convinced that Dad would be pleased with the goal of helping kids attend UCA even after he is gone.

Sincerely, The Peach Family

One-to-One Laptop Computers Starting 2010-2011

April 13, 2010

Dear UCA Family,

We are excited to announce our ‘One-to-One’ laptop program for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year!

One of our greatest goals for UCA students is for them to stay on the cutting-edge of technology and become well-prepared for future advancements.  We are dedicated, not only to teaching technology, but to help students learn how to apply technology appropriately and with integrity.  Below, you will find some helpful information about our ‘One-to-One’ laptop program.

Benefits:

  • Quality, portable laptops
  • Safe access to current technology
  • Necessary software packages provided
  • Enhanced classroom environments
  • Research tools available through EBSCO and Bible study databases
  • Greater network security for student data
  • Four years of use = $1.00 purchase

Specs:  (of the proposed laptop)

  • Lenovo business-class laptop
  • 15.4” Widescreen Display
  • Intel Core i-Series Processor
  • 2 GB Ram
  • DVD+/-RW Drive
  • 250 GB Hard Drive or better
  • Windows 7 Professional

Q & A

Q: Will the student be able to have his/her own software on the laptop?

A: Yes. Students will be able to have their own software on the laptop as long as the software is licensed appropriately and meets the Media Use Policy.  The UCA IT department will help students install new software on the laptop.

Q: Will the student still be able to bring his/her own computer?

A: UCA will provide a laptop for every student.  However, if a student feels he/she would like to bring a different computer, it is allowed only with a dean’s permission. The computer will be stored in a secure locker and may be used in a designated room.

Q: Will UCA’s Internet be able to handle a load of 250+ laptops on campus?

A: Yes.  Beginning this summer, UCA will be moving to a faster internet connection that will provide 100 Mbps bandwidth.

Q: Will the USB ports on the laptop be turned off?

A: No.  The USB ports will be available to the students on their laptops.

Q: Will these laptop computers perform well?

A: Yes. The laptop computers UCA will have are high quality, high performing laptops that should be able to follow the students through UCA and continue with them through college.

Q: Are there going to be any additional costs to the student for the laptop program?

A: No.  The current $100 technology fee will stay the same.  We do not expect any additional costs.

Q: Could a student keep the laptop following graduation?

A: Yes. A student may choose if he/she would like to buy the laptop after their senior year.  Below is a chart for the cost of purchasing the laptop based on how many years the laptop has been used:

  • 1 Year               $750
  • 2 Years              $500
  • 3 Years              $250
  • 4 Years              $1

Q: Who is responsible for theft, loss, or damage incurred by carelessness?

A: The laptops are under warranty from UCA.  The student’s parents and/or legal guardians are responsible for theft, loss, or damage incurred by carelessness.  Insurance will be available to the parents or legal guardians if they choose.

Stay tuned for more details of the ‘One-to-One’ laptop program! Further information will be mailed and published on the UCA website (www.ucaa.org/laptops) as it becomes available.

God bless,

Troy Patzer -Principal

This Week at UCA – January 22-28

January 22, 2010

Dear UCA Family,

Parents, we appreciate the nice comments you send us.  Recently, Brenda, the mother of Chad a senior, sent us an email about parents banding together to pray.  Here’s part of her email…

“Especially with the student week of prayer coming up, we parents can be praying and lifting our kids and their friends up in prayer.  I like the way Augustine’s mother lifted her son up thorough scripture.  We can do the same.  If there are any parents that have promises to share with each other or want to call another parent to pray with for their son or daughter you are welcome to give out my contact info.  It just seems like we as parents need to be banding together to support the work that you are doing there at the school.  May God richly bless.” (You can contact Brenda by calling UCA at 509-245-3600 and asking for information)

GRANDPARENTS – parents should have received a pink printout containing the info we have for grandparents in their last statement.  If parents did not receive any info in their statement and would like to add grandparents to our database, please send grandparents name, address, and email address to Carol at  carol.ochoa@ucaa.org by February 1.  All grandparents that are in our database will receive an invitation to Grandparent Weekend March 12 and 13.

MISSION TRIP – there is still space to participate in the All Nations Mission Trip to the Yakama Nation.  The cost is only $200 and students can still go home for part of spring break.  For more info contact Lynda North 509-245-3610 or  lynda.north@ucaa.org.

New Video on UCAA.ORG

October 30, 2009

reels2Another short video from this school year has been added to UCAA.ORG.  This video was created by Nick (Class of 2010) and it shows Class Night.  Class night is a great time for the classes to begin to bond at the beginning of the school year.  Various games, challenges, and general fun.  It is a time when not only do the classes bond but each class has the opportunity to build other classes up.

A senior reportedly called class night “school spirit in a room”.

Principal’s Update & This Week @ UCA Nov. 7

October 30, 2009

Winter is teasing us and we’ve had snow flurries throughout the day. We’re thankful far fewer students are now on sick list and parents and staff are continuing to take every precaution necessary to keep those numbers to a minimum.

We have incorporated some Parent Weekend activities into the UCC Family Fellowship weekend November 13 – 15. Most of you have already had opportunity to meet your son or daughter’s teachers, but if you haven’t, please contact Florence Lacey for scheduling: florence.lacey@ucaa.org or 509-245-3627. We understand that all of you can’t see every teacher, so please choose one or two. There will also be the Amateur Hour on Saturday night and football games on Sunday. It will be an exciting, fun, full weekend!

The theme of the UCC Family Fellowship is Go Mission Fest. Click on this link for seminars and schedule .   If your son or daughter has not signed up for a mission trip now is the time.

Visit UCA’s Edline presence to read the This Week at UCA schedules under the news section.
