UCA Band Plays Through Power Outage
March 16, 2010
This past weekend was grandparent weekend at UCA. The culminating event is the Spring Arts Festival. It is a celebration of creativity in voice, art, instrument, and much more.
For part of the program, the UCA band (under the direction of Dean Kravig) performed “Allegro Barbaro”, a difficult number in 2/2 and reaching tempos of 178 beats per minute. In the midst of performing this difficult song, the Spangle area, and UCA, suffered a momentary loss of electrical power. The gymnasium went pitch black but the band kept playing without being able to see their music. The power came back on and the band finished the song. The song was met with wild applause and a standing ovation.
A proud parent shot video of this performance and UCA is happy to share it with you. Enjoy.

Heritage weekend is over but the enjoyment of it doesn’t have to end. Every year, UCA has a weekend of emphasis on the history of God’s people. This year’s theme was looking at “God’s promises in history”. Students, staff, & UCA church members researched, wrote scripts and presented the lives of historic Biblical & Christian leaders.

Dear UCA Family,
First semester of 2009-10 school year is almost history. Everyone will enjoy this Sabbath’s rest! You are invited to Heritage Weekend beginning at vespers tomorrow evening. The students involved have been practicing and we anticipate a blessing as we consider how God has been faithful with His promises throughout history even though we have not always.
The theme for Heritage Weekend is “Our Choice – God’s Choice”, highlighting God’s promises throughout history and how we have responded to them and God. A number of students will be involved in the presentations on Friday at vespers and Sabbath School.

Cathedral Concert
May 8, 2009
Parents and friends,
I just wanted to send out a note reminding you about our annual “Cathedral” concert on the 29th of May. We have decided to do this concert at a different location this year. While St. Johns Cathedral is a very impressive edifice, it is not a great place to perform for the singers. It is too big and the sound doesn’t make it all of the way to the back. The people who get there early and sit up front hear well, but the people who sit even half of the way back have a hard time hearing.
Our performance this year will be at the Central United Methodist church at 518 W 3rd. Avenue in downtown Spokane. I am attaching directions for you so you will know how to get there. I hope my directions are clear, if not, just Google Central United Methodist church Spokane and it will come up for you.
This musical worship service has become quite a tradition for us here and we hope that you will be able to fit this into your year end plans. We would love to see you there.
—Curtis Anderson
